Luxury Treehouse UK: Your Guide

Live the good life – Unknown

The Buzzardry, East Sussex, England

The Buzzardry in East Sussex, also known as the Treehouse at Marklye, is the second treehouse we have enjoyed in this part of England this year. We were looking for a super romantic yet rustic stay after our wedding in nearby West Sussex and we definitely found it here. This luxury treehouse was the ideal choice for a wintery break, peace and quiet and the romance of remoteness. If you’re looking for a luxury treehouse holiday in the UK, you’ve found it. Let our trusty guide help you discover all you need to know about The Buzzardry, from what to expect from your accommodation, what to bring and how best to enjoy your time here.

Your Accommodation

The Buzzardry is one of those holiday homes that you enter and squeal with excitement, especially when you walk through the door to the master bedroom and catch your first glimpse of the freestanding copper bath. Similarly to the other treehouse designs in this area, The Buzzardry is full of English character and charm, beautifully encompassing the outdoors inside. From the moment you pull up your car, the adventure begins.

Upon Arrival At The Buzzardry

The Buzzardry is on the Marklye estate, locally owned and run. Follow your booking directions to the letter and arrive at a gated entrance where you will need the code given to you in advance. Drive through to the designated woodland parking area where there is space for two vehicles. Once out of your car, censored lights lead the way to the treehouse, over a low bridge with trickling water underfoot and down a muddy path. If you arrive in the daytime you won’t need the lighting but arriving at night in the middle of British winter and being led purely by lights, adds to the fun of staying in this treehouse.

Spiral Staircase at The Buzzardry

The Buzzardry From The Outside

Once you arrive at the base of The Buzzardry, completely detached from the owner’s estate, a spiral staircase to the left will lead you up to the treehouse decking. This luxury treehouse is built into the bank surrounded by ample trees and shrubs, offering plenty of privacy and an abundance of English wildlife. The spiral staircase takes you onto the semi-circular patio where you can really admire this stunning hideaway. With cedar cladding, tasteful design and incredible symmetry, this holiday home is both grand and earthy, welcoming and impressive. From the decking, which provides multiple seating areas and spectacular forest and lake views, enter the treehouse through the double doors and prepare to really be blown away.

When we arrived, we were met by Emma who welcomed us warmly and congratulated us on our big day! It takes a moment to appreciate your surroundings once you are inside The Buzzardry. So stop. And take it all in.

The open plan living room/kitchen/dining room is more than impressive with a high ceiling and beautifully exposed timber rafters. Enjoy homely touches from the log side tables, blankets and cushions, to the wood burner with logs provided.

In the kitchen, you will find a traditional butler sink, fridge, induction hob, slide-and-hide oven and a scrumptious welcome hamper including crips, milk and butter if you want them, fresh bread, fruit and eggs if you desire. The owners were fantastic at removing the items we didn’t want or need as vegan guests.

To the side of the kitchen, an old dresser hides all the crockery and cups, microwave and cooking utensils. Enjoy large ceramic mugs and eat breakfast at a wooden table big enough for four.

A small corridor then leads to two large bedrooms. The first bedroom, slightly to the right is a tastefully decorated twin room with bright windows and an immaculate ensuite shower room. The second bedroom is the master bedroom, also with an ensuite shower, as well as an eye-catching, freestanding copper bath positioned perfectly at the foot of the bed with forest views. From this un-overlooked position, you can immediately picture yourself bathing in simple luxury whilst the sounds of the forest quite literally surround you.

All The Little Touches

Expect every little detail to have been thought of for you at The Buzzardry. From the beautiful range of Green & Spring products perfectly located throughout to the choice of playing either a board game or watching a film in front of the fire. The Green & Spring herbal products provided include Bath Bubbles, Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash, Body Lotion and Hand Washes. As is common for the treehouses in this classic collection, nearby walks to local pubs are easily found with the help of the inclusive Welcome Pack. This property is exceptionally well maintained and attention to detail is clearly paramount to the owners of The Buzzardry.

Christmas at The Buzzardry

We timed our visit with Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed the tasteful and natural decorations provided at The Buzzardry. A festive Christmas tree welcomed us at the side of the entrance doors, adorned with dried orange and pine cones, whilst real holly and more pinecones decorated the lounge window sills and the outdoor table. This luxury treehouse holiday was our honeymoon and we were also thoughtfully gifted with a beautiful ‘Just Married’ wooden horseshoe, positioned pride and centre for us to find upon our Christmas tree.

Other Useful Information

It may also be useful for you to know that you will find extra logs downstairs in the log store under the treehouse and there is no access to the treehouse without using the narrow spiral stairs.

Do You Need To Bring Food To The Buzzardry?

Foodwise, do not expect the welcome hamper to provide enough food for your stay. Either stop off en route to buy local groceries for your visit or pop out during your time here to the nearby village of Rushlake Green or larger area of Heathfield. If you plan to eat out, you will find traditional options at the highly recommended local pubs. However, if you would rather enjoy your luxury treehouse to the max, we recommend you arrive with a cool box of goodies and avoid the need to leave your holiday home at all!

Our Personal Recommendations For Your Stay

If like us, you are looking for a way to celebrate a special occasion during the cold and dark British Winter months, you may find your general options less than inspiring. Even with a wonderful property like The Buzzardry near Rushlake Green, it can be hard to know what to do when the weather is against you and the hours of daylight are minimal. As seasoned travellers who love winter just as much as other seasons, here are our personal recommendations for a wintery stay at The Buzzardry:

  • Design a fun and romantic playlist as a backdrop to your weekend away. Enjoy this on your road trip to The Buzzardry – picture quiet country lanes that wind and bend, ideal for a nippy little sports car.
  • Bring hot chocolate and marshmallows with you and enjoy hot mugs of gooey goodness wrapped in your luxury treehouse blankets in front of the fire.
  • Plan to live in your favourite PJs or Onesie during your visit – no real clothes required. After all, that’s what holidays are about! Remember, if you don’t want to have to get dressed to eat out, bring a cool box of food that will last you for the duration of your stay, planning easy meals and enjoying the excellent kitchen facilities on offer.
  • At the very least, walk around the paths just below the treehouse to get great photos of this beautiful structure offset against the season of your choosing. Traveller Tip: the two separate low bridges make great photo spots, as do the wooden ‘The Buzzardry’ signs. O, and don’t forget your wellies!
  • Spend an hour relaxing in the copper bathtub, big enough for two, planning your soak to coincide with the last hour of daylight, before jumping out to enjoy an early sunset from the balcony.
