“Approach everything with childlike curiosity” – Karen Rose
Treehouse Bed and Breakfast, Wadhurst, England
Bensfield Treehouse in Wadhurst East Sussex is ideal for a special occasion for big kids at heart. If you’re looking for a stay that is quiet, rural and romantic, as well as being authentically British, look no further. From the moment you catch a glimpse of the treehouse and rope bridge, the magic begins. If this English beauty catches your eye, read on to find out more about your accommodation, your food and what’s nearby.

Your Accommodation
The treehouse is a breathtaking design, with a living oak tree being the main focus in the circular, open plan studio that sleeps two people. There is also a small bathroom including a shower, toilet and sink, a small porch at the front connecting to the rope bridge and then a larger decking to the back overlooking fields of sheep with a stairway down to ground level. The tastefully designed kitchen has an oven, hob, fridge with small freezer compartment and all the other kitchen utensils and crockery you could need, including wine glasses, coffee mugs and champagne glasses.
The biggest draw has to be the impressive rope bridge which isn’t for the faint hearted as it sways and bounces when you walk across. It’s an exciting adventure from the moment you arrive, that’s for sure.

Your Food
A stay at Bensfield Treehouse includes a personalised complimentary hamper. This is a delightful touch and we couldn’t get enough of the strawberries, tomatoes, mushrooms, apple juice and bread. All the hamper ingredients are locally sourced, including meats and eggs, but upon request, a vegetarian or vegan hamper can be provided instead. The produce isn’t just local, it’s seasonal too and this shows in the bursting flavours. The bread is soft, the tomatoes are sweet and the strawberries are really juicy.

Our Recommendations
At £200 per night for two people, a stay at Bensfield Treehouse is not a low-cost option. It is however great value for money, especially if you opt to spend your time enjoying the treehouse and it’s immediate surroundings, instead of paying for days out as well. After all, with a unique stay such as this one, you are better off enjoying the charming location you have already paid for.

Here are our recommendations for enjoying your Treetop Holiday:
- Spend lazy days with both the back and front doors of the treehouse wide open to remind you where you are.
- Walk through the owner’s farm and fields to meet the grazing animals, a small track that’s enjoyable in any weather with welly boots. A useful map is thoughtfully provided in your welcome book so that you know which land you are welcome to trample through.
- Make the most of the BBQ on the back deck, with its relaxing views and surrounding nature.
- A bottle of champagne goes down nicely with those deliciously ripe strawberries if you too are celebrating a special occasion during the summer.
- Take a seat in the afternoon sun on the front porch with both feet on the rope bridge breathing in East Sussex’s countryside air.
- Give the oak tree a big hug!

The Local Area
If you do choose to get out and about whilst you stay at Bensfield Treehouse, there are some pleasant local treasures to enjoy, with and without the need to spend more money.
The Mark Cross Inn
On a sunny day, local pub The Mark Cross Inn is ideal for lunch in the garden overlooking the rolling green fields. The menu varies but always includes vegan options, such as the Super Food Salad with pomegranate, quinoa and avocado. A meal and a refreshing drink will cost you approximately £15. Don’t rush off after you have eaten. Instead, sit back, relax and enjoy the view.
Bewl Water
A great half day itinerary is a nearby cycle at Bewl Water, so don’t forget to pack your bikes. On the Kent side of the border, benefiting from scenic views of the High Weald AONB, this trail is approximately 15km depending on the route you take. It circles the reservoir on various terrain and is a great free summer’s day option. Peddle under the canopy of trees, through the open tracks alongside the water’s edge and on small country lanes.
There are many other nearby spots to enjoy and your Bensfield Treehouse hosts have kindly compiled a comprehensive list of their favourite local pubs and walks to make your choice easier.
